The 2025 Lipid Science Prize is awarded to Professor Robert S. Langer Jr. by Camurus Lipid Research Foundation – Kåre Larsson och Gunnar Sandbergs forskningsstiftelse
Lund, Sweden – 27 January 2025 – Camurus Lipid Research Foundation – Kåre Larsson och Gunnar Sandbergs forskningsstiftelse1 – announced today that the 2025 Lipid Prize is awarded to Professor Robert S. Langer Jr. active at the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Biological Engineering at MIT, Boston, MA, USA. Dr. Langer receives the award for his groundbreaking and interdisciplinary research focused on the design and characterization of complex materials, including lipid and polymer systems, and the application of these in drug-delivery, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The work of Dr. Langer has resulted in more than 1500 publications, numerous patents, and the founding of over 40 biotechnology companies. In addition, he has mentored many students, postdocs, and researchers, who are now established leaders in academia and industry.
The Lipid Research Prize, which includes a SEK 500 000 reward, will be presented to Prof. Langer at a ceremony during the Annual Lipid Science Symposium on Tuesday, 29 April 2025 at Hypoteksföreningen in Lund, Sweden. Aside from the main prize, two junior prizes will be awarded on this occasion to:
Dr. Gabriele Kockelkoren, Stanford University, CA, USA for his research of nanodomains at the plasma membrane and mechanism of formation with respect to GPCR organization and function performed during his PhD at Copenhagen University.
Dr. Federica Sebastiani, Copenhagen University, Denmark for her research on how the structure of Lipid Nanoparticles (LNPs) for mRNA delivery and their interaction with serum proteins impact mRNA-LNP efficacy.
